A scene from Desert Crossing. He sees himself and Trip dragging themselves across the desert.
While this was certainly a time when Trip was in jeopardy, this is not the time he was aiming for.
ARCHER
Damn!
The background around him shudders and wavers (as if an anomaly were passing through it)
And Archer finds himself pulled back through time and back into ...
CUT TO:
INT. - ENTERPRISE - ENGINEERING -- CONTINUOUS
The engineering room. Archer is thrown to the floor, and the portal collapses behind him.
Slowly, he pulls himself to his feet.
ARCHER
Damn.
He goes over to the time-travelling device.
ARCHER (CONT'D)
Well, if at first you don't succeed...
He begins working the various controls.
ARCHER (CONT'D)
...try, try and try again.
He powers it up, adjusts the controls.
Again, a portal forms.
He steps around and walks towards it.
ARCHER (CONT'D)
Let's hope this time is the right time.
He walks into the portal, and is pulled through and into...
CUT TO:
EXT. -- ESTABLISHING SHOT -- "DAWN" -- NIGHT
He sees Trip, warming himself at the fire he has built by his crashed shuttlepod, and dictating into his padd.
Again, this is another instance where Trip has gotten into trouble, but not the one Archer wanted.
Once more, the fabric of space-time around Archer wavers, shudders, then collapses, and Archer finds himself pulled back once more through time and back into ...
CUT TO:
INT. - ENTERPRISE - ENGINEERING -- CONTINUOUS
The engineering room. Again, Archer is thrown to the floor, and again, the portal collapses behind him.
He stands, shakes his head.
ARCHER
Damn! I'd forgotten how many times
you'd gotten yourself into trouble, Trip.
He looks around, almost as if expecting Trip to respond, but there is silence.
ARCHER (CONT'D)
(sighs)
"Once more into the breach, dear friends..."
And goes to the time-travelling machine.
He begins to work on it.
He hears someone moving behind him. Without looking up, he says:
ARCHER (CONT'D)
T'Pol? I told you to wait outside.
DANIELS (O.S.)
It's not T'Pol.
Archer looks up to see DANIELS, the time-travelling temporal agent, smiling at him.
DANIELS
Hello, Jonathan.
Archer does a double-take. He is definitely not pleased to find Daniels here.
ARCHER
You! You promised to leave me and
my crew alone!
DANIELS
I did. But I had to break that promise,
Jonathan. You should be glad I did.
ARCHER
(sourly)
Oh, really?
DANIELS
Yes. Look, Jonathan. I came because I
became aware of incursions along the
timeline and knew it was you. Better me
than someone else.
He walks over and looks at the device.
DANIELS (CONT'D)
I assume you found this in the database I left behind.
He gives Archer a piercing look.
DANIELS (CONT'D)
Never turned it into Starfleet, did you?
ARCHER
I thought it better not to.
DANIELS
I see. So you used it to build this time machine.
ARCHER
Yes, I did. Why? Time travel illegal now?
DANIELS
(sighs)
No. But this particular device is a very
primitive - and dangerous - form of time
travel. It was - sorry, it will be - outlawed
shortly after it is invented. It destabilizes
space-time far too much to be used safely.
(a beat)
But I don't suppose that will stop you, will it?
ARCHER
You suppose correctly.
DANIELS
Why are you so determined to risk your
life, Jonathan? Charles Tucker is dead
and gone. Why not let it be?
ARCHER
The Powers That Be... the Universe...
the Creator ... God ... Whoever. All I
I know is, it shouldn't have happened!
It's not right! It's wrong!
DANIELS
And you're determined to put it right,
is that it?
ARCHER
You bet I am. And the only way you're
going to stop me is to kill me, so --
DANIELS
(interrupting)
--I have no intention of stopping you.
Archer gapes at him, dumbfounded.
DANIELS (CONT'D)
In fact, I'm going to help you.
ARCHER
(flatly)
You're going to help me.
DANIELS
Yes.
ARCHER
Why?
DANIELS
Because you'll keep trying no matter
what I say or do.
ARCHER
That's true.
(a beat)
So you agree with me about Trip?
DANIELS
(shrugs)
All I know is that I don't want you
damaging the time line any more than
absolutely necessary.
ARCHER
(shrugs in turn)
I can live with that.
Daniels goes over to the machine, begins working on it.
DANIELS
You really ought to thank me. The way
these controls are set up, you might
never be able to find the right co-ordinates.
ARCHER
Why not just use some of your technology
to send me back?
DANIELS
Please, Jonathan I've already broken
enough regulations as is.
Archer realizes that Daniels, too, has his higher-ups to whom he must answer.
ARCHER
Temporal Time Corps going to give
you grief about this?
DANIELS
You let me worry about them. Let's
just get this done, all right?
ARCHER
Gladly.
And together, they begin working on the time-travelling device.
OFF of this ...
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. - ENTERPRISE - ENGINEERING -- LATER
Daniels and Archer have finished working on the machine, and Daniels is giving Archer some last-minute instructions.
DANIELS
The co-ordinates are now properly set.
But you won't have much time when you
are there. As I said, this device seriously
strains the fabric of space-time in both
directions. Too much strain and the damage
can be irreparable.
Archer realizes something.
ARCHER
Was that why the ship was shaking the
other day? Turbulence from my time travel?
DANIELS
Yes.
He steps back from the machine, as a portal forms. This one is less primitive than the ones Archer had managed to produce.
DANIELS (CONT'D)
There you are.
ARCHER
Let's hope the third time is lucky.
(to Daniels)
Thank you.
DANIELS
You're welcome. Good luck, Jonathan.
Now hurry!
Archer obeys, and steps into the portal.
He is pulled through, and into ...
CUT TO:
INT. - ESTABLISHING SHOT - "THESE ARE THE VOYAGES" -- MOMENTS LATER
We are the junction where Trip is setting the trap for the THREE GANGSTERS.
Trip is halfway up the wall, and just about to jam the two ends of the wire together.
TRIP
And one more thing ...
He stops, and his mouth falls open.
A phaser blast hits him, and he falls to the floor, unconscious.
The three gangsters turn, and before they can react, they, too, are phasered down.
ANGLE ON
Archer, looking grim, with a phaser in his hand.
BACK TO SCENE
He thumbs the intercom.
ARCHER
Archer to security. Hostiles at [ship location].
REED (COM VOICE)
On our way, sir.
ARCHER
Acknowledged.
He signs off, and looks at Trip, unconscious.
ARCHER (CONT'D)
(to Trip)
You're welcome.
He then steps back behind the wall, out of sight, as the MACOs, led by Reed, charge down the hall towards Trip and the intruders.
He then hurries back down the hall.
He comes to his unconscious self and another unconscious GANGSTER.
The fabric of time-space is beginning to show the strain, but he still stops.
He gives the Gangster another shot with the phaser, insuring that he will remain unconscious.
His previous self is starting to stir.
He leans over and speaks to himself.
ARCHER (CONT'D)
You owe me one.
He then begins to head down the hall, as the fabric of space-time begins to unravel around him.
And Archer finds himself pulled back through time and back into ...
CUT TO:
INT. - ENTERPRISE - ENGINEERING -- CONTINUOUS
The engineering room. Archer is thrown to the floor, and the portal collapses behind him.
ANGLE ON:
Archer, unconscious. He blinks, winces, and tries to sit up.
A helping hand is extended into the frame.
TRIP (O.S.)
Take it easy there, Cap'n.
Archer becomes fully awake. He looks up into Trip's smiling face.
(NOTE: Trip is now wearing civilian clothes.)
ARCHER
Trip?!! Is that you?
TRIP
Who else?
Archer leaps to his feet.
Engineering looks normal; there is no trace of the time-travelling machine.
Archer envelops Trip in a huge bear hug.
TRIP (CONT'D)
(muffled)
Cap'n? You all right?
ARCHER
I am now.
TRIP
I'm not so sure about that. I think I'd
better take you up to Sickbay. Have Phlox
take a look at that thick skull of yours.
ARCHER
Phlox is on board?
TRIP
Course he is. Why wouldn't he be?
ARCHER
I thought - isn't this Wednesday? The fifth?
TRIP
Now I know you need checking out.
It's Monday. The third.
ARCHER
It is?
TRIP
You are definitely going to Sickbay.
Come on.
And he starts to help Archer out of Engineering.
OFF of this ...
CUT TO:
INT. - ENTERPRISE - CORRIDOR - -- CONTINUOUS
Trip and Archer exit out of Engineering, walk towards the camera.
CAMERA REMAINS on them as they walk past it, and continue down the corridor.
TRIP
What were you doing, sneaking around in my engine room, anyhow?
ARCHER
Captains don't sneak.
TRIP
The hell they don't. I sure didn't hear
you come in.
Archer stumbles slightly.
TRIP (CONT'D)
Whoops.
He gives Archer more support.
TRIP (CONT'D)
Here, lean on me. Although I don't know
why I'm being so nice to you. I mean, after
all, you shot me last week.
ARCHER
Well, I had to.
TRIP
No you didn't. I had a perfectly good plan.
ARCHER
A perfectly stupid plan, you mean.
TRIP
And your plan was better? Shooting me?
ARCHER
Be thankful it was only set on stun.
TRIP
My damn shoulder still hurts, you know.
Because you shot me!
ARCHER
How long are you going to milk this one?
TRIP
As long as I can.
ARCHER
(groans exaggeratedly)
Figures.
TRIP
What are you complaining about?
You shot me!
CUT TO:
EXT. - ESTABLISHING SHOT - ENTERPRISE ORBITING EARTH -- CONTINUOUS
Enterprise in orbit around earth.
ARCHER (V.O.)
Try to do a guy a favor...
TRIP (V.O.)
You call shooting me a favor? You've got
a funny idea of what a favor is, Cap'n.
ARCHER (V.O.)
Next time, it won't be on stun, how's that?
Wonderful, Pippin. Thank you for "putting right what once went wrong." It was believable and emotional and well written.

Wonderful. The things Archer will do to save Trip. I liked that you included Ruby & Soval in the episode and looked into the possibility of Trip's katra.

wow -Fantastic!!! You kept me guessing every step of the way!
I didn't think I'd like reading a script, but it really was like watching a real (and entire!) episode in my head. I could actually 'hear' the character's voices and 'see' their expressions as I read through it - which is of course fan fiction's first and truest test of character integrity.
Very neat and tidy answer.
I could keep going, but...Well Done :o)

I was just talking to someone the other day that about the fact that this was sci-fi and anything can happen and who know maybe Daniels would show up and put things right.
Thanks, for being a mind reader.

I like the plotline but I do hate reading stories in script form. The only reason I read this story was because I saw who wrote it and you made it worth the read. Liked how you corrected the that terrible last show. Great story idea.
